Match #5, Silvermine vs Sleepy Hollow, Thursday May 8 at Woodway CC
Silvermine worked hard at Woodway to earn 5 points against the strong Sleepy Hollow team in the fifth and final match of the 2018 MET Team season. Congrats to today’s line up, Joan, Vyv, Lynne, Leslie and Grace, who played the best they could against some exceptional golf talent.
In the final tally, Silvermine finished a respectable fourth place in Series 2. On their home course, Woodway squeaked out a win over second place Sleepy Hollow, and will move up to Series 1 next season. Series 2 in 2019 will be comprised of Greenwich CC, Sleepy Hollow CC, Rye GC, Silvermine GC, Wee Burn CC and Burning Tree CC.

Match #4, Silvermine vs Rye, Thursday May 3 at Sleepy Hollow CC
Today’s match took place at the venerable Sleepy Hollow Country Club, and what a privilege it was. 5488 yards from the red tees, rated 72.6/139; long fairways, challenging greens and lots of deep bunkers. And an incredible long view of the mighty Hudson River. Spectacular facility in every way.
Our Team played with heart, and came away with a solid six points to Rye’s nine. Silvermine sits in solid fourth place going into the final match of the season on May 8, against Sleepy Hollow at Woodway.

Success vs Whippoorwill CC in Match #3, Tuesday May 1 at Rye Golf Club
Team Silvermine did the job and more today, bringing home 13 of a possible 15 points against Whippoorwill, the #1 Team in our Series! We are now in third place; a mere 3.5 points separates the top five Teams.
Joan Evans lead the line up, followed by Vyvyan Burns, Lynne Scerbo, Leslie Caruso and Grace Hansford. Everyone executed a solid round, despite never having played the Rye Course. There were many elevations, blind shots and doglegs to contend with. Silvermine sets us up very well to compete on a course like this one. Once again, the 2018 season continues to be an anomaly; it was a warm and sunny spring day.
We have passed the halfway mark of the MET Team Season. Match #4 is on Thursday May 3 at Sleepy Hollow Country Club against Rye.

The Women’s MET Team had lots to celebrate after Thursday’s home match against Woodway Country Club. The Team comfortably accomplished their goal of making up ground on the cumulative score sheet. And as host, our club put on a first rate event, from the warm welcome extended by our Pros, to delicious Dry Dock Fare, and a track in great spring condition in spite of the deluge of the day before.
Against Woodway, our Team was headed by repeat Club Champion Joan Evans, who played a successful match against Woodway’s strongest, very low index opponent. Bev Griffith, Vyvyan Burns, Grace Hansford and Anne Trinklein followed, all paired with experienced competitors, who rank significantly better on paper. We used our home advantage, stayed in our game, and scored a significant 9 points to Woodway’s 6.
Match 3 will be at Rye Golf Club, against The Whippoorwill Club, on Tuesday May 1.

The Women’s Metropolitan Golf Association promotes women’s amateur golf through individual and team competition, and oversees the highest level of inter club team competition fostered at SGC. Silvermine starts the season ranked third of six teams in Series 2 (out of a total of 10 Series in the CT/Westchester league). Our full roster includes Janet Karabin, Joan Evans, Bev Griffith, Vyvyan Burns, Lynne Scerbo, Leslie Caruso, Grace Hansford, Anne Trinklein, Donna Phillips, Mary Jo Weiss, Pam Capone, Vivian Sweeney, Suzanne Rand and Poppy Holmes.
The 2018 MET Team season opened on Tuesday April 24 with an atypical warm, dry, sunny day. The first match was held at Wee Burn CC in Darien, and our players went up against a strong home team, scoring 3 of the possible 12 match play points. First time MET competitors Donna Philips and Mary Jo Weiss held their own, overcoming nervous jitters to both play very solid rounds. The roster was filled out with Grace Hansford, Anne Trinklein and Vyvyan Burns. We look forward to gaining some ground in the standings at our home match at Silvermine on Thursday 4/26.
