MET Team – 2023 WWPD Award Winner, Amy Blount

As a way to celebrate ongoing success, to build our Silvermine community and team camaraderie, and also as way to honor our MET Team founder Poppy Holmes, each year we recognize one of our Team mates with the WWPD? (What would Poppy Do?) Award.
The award celebrates and recognizes the Silvermine MET Team member whose commitment, spirit and excellence deliver meaningful positive impact to the Team in that season.
This year’s winner made herself available for all 5 matches, and played in 4.  The first two were in position #2, a spot she isn’t used to playing, but filled with a calm demeanor and confidence.  Amy showed up with a great attitude and ‘we can do this’ spirit that helped me and her team mates garner the confidence and determination we needed to be successful.  Congratulations to Amy.

Match #1 was held at Westchester Country Club on April 25.  With more than half of the Team still in FL, and the roster re-arranged at the 11th hour when #1 Janet Karabin had to pull out with a broken arm, we dug deep to find our inner calm and enjoy the day.  The south course is long and hilly.  And the thick rough was like quick sand to your ball.  But the Team persevered, and exceeded expectations to score 6.5 points to Mount Kisco CC’s 8.5.  A call out to first time MET player with SGC, Deb Morea.  Well done ladies!!

Match #1 Lineup:

Match #2 was held at Sunningdale CC on April 27.  With the elements (hail, rain and cold) attempting to shroud our enthusiasm, the ladies from SGC stayed focused on what they could control.  Against a very strong Home team from Sunningdale, the SGC squad scored 4 points – not a reflection of the quality of the golf played- to the home team’s 11.  A shout out to another first time MET player with a bright future, Samantha Jones.

Match #3 took place at Shorehaven Country Club on May 2.  It was another challenging weather day for golf (very wet and cold), but our Team’s spirit was not dampened.  Even for our returning FL residents.  We scored a solid 7 points to 8 for the strong team from Westchester Country Club.  Team Silvermine is holding steady in the series as we pass the halfway mark of the season.

Match #4 against the first team from Scarsdale was a tough one for Team Silvermine.  We set out with optimism on the beautiful Mount Kisco CC course, but the golf gods were not on our side, down the entire line up.  All of us came in feeling that our match scores could easily have flipped, or at least been split.  So goes the game of golf on some days.  The Team has some work to do at home in the last match of the season on May 9.

Match #4 at Mount Kisco Golf Club

Match #5 With the pressure on to score big or loose big in Series 3, Silvermine rocked it!  Congratulations to our lineup who came through at home with a whopping 12 of 15 points against the second place team, Shorehaven CC.  SGC will remain in Series 3 in 2024 of the WMGA Team Match League.

Lineup for Match #5 at SGC on May 9:
