WMGA TEAM UPDATES
Silvermine MET Team; 2017 Season Round Up
Silvermine has been represented in the Women’s Metropolitan Golf Association (MET) Team Match League for about fifteen years. The league is a relatively competitive environment, with 5 matches, one against each of the five other clubs in a Series, played over 2.5 weeks in late April/early May. The format is head to head match play, no strokes. As a new team, Silvermine started at the bottom of the Westchester/CT Division, in Series 10. Through hard work, competitive spirit and the leadership of past Captain Poppy Holmes, our remarkable Club Team worked its way to the top, Series 1. Two years ago we moved back to Series 2 and we remain solidly competitive there to date.
This season Series Two was comprised of teams from Sleepy Hollow, Westchester, Woodway, Silvermine, Wee Burn and Salem Country Clubs. Against formidable competition and (almost) without exception out-indexed, Team Silvermine finished a VERY strong third among many of the big golf clubs in the Westchester/CT division: Westchester CC; 57, Sleepy Hollow CC; 46.5, SILVERMINE GC, 37, Woodway CC; 32.5, Wee Burn CC; 28, Salem GC; 23. (See cumulative match results below.) We are very proud of our success and have earned a reputation as the Team with heart and depth. (We’ve been known as the best dressed since Kim Schrader coordinated the purchase of our pink Team jackets a few years back!)
The first place team in each series moves up and the last place moves down a series. In 2018, our competition in Series Two will be The Whippoorwill Club, Sleepy Hollow CC, Woodway CC, Wee Burn CC and Rye Golf Club.

Silvermine vs Sleepy Hollow, at Woodway Thursday May 4
Team Silvermine headed out in the morning chill today a little anxious about the matches ahead. Sleepy Hollow was sitting with a commanding lead in Series 2, having (close to) swept all three of their previous matches (vs Salem, Wee Burn and Woodway.) Perhaps their attitude was a little too presumptive.
We surprised everyone with the outcome: Silvermine took 10 points to Sleepy Hollow’s 5!! What an accomplishment! Congratulations to our top performers of the day, Janet, Joan, Bev, Grace and Lynne. They got the job done, and then some. The Silvermine Team played with grit and class, and we are very proud of you!
SGC is now alone in third place in Series 2 after four of five matches.
L-R: Leslie Caruso, Lynne Scerbo, Janet Karabin, Bev Griffith, Vyvyan Burns (captain) and Joan Evans.
